Roger Williams University Launches Virtual Career Center, Enhancing Support for Students, Alumni

Roger Williams University, a private university with campuses in Bristol and Providence, Rhode Island, has just launched a new virtual career center to its entire community of undergraduate and graduate students, and alumni.

The Center for Career and Professional Development team has long helped students find the self-knowledge, tools and skills to successfully navigate lifelong careers. Ensuring that every student takes full advantage of the resources and supports the CCPD offers, however, was often a challenge. In order to engage all students earlier and more frequently in their journey at Roger Williams, the CCPD team recognized that they needed to meet students where they are - online - with a highly engaging and user-friendly digital career development experience.

To help them build such an online experience, the CCPD team partnered with uConnect to build ccpd.rwu.edu, the new Roger Williams virtual career center.

“Career services is a critical component of the undergrad, grad, and alumni experience. Ensuring that our high-impact resources, mentoring, and professional development opportunities are available online allows us to better serve our community members wherever they may be, at any time in their career journey,” says Aaron Buzay Associate Vice President of Institutional Advancement. “With the launch of our new virtual career center, we are excited to usher in a new era of highly accessible and engaging career services that help all Roger Williams students alums realize their full potential.”

rwu laptopThe new virtual career center aggregates the wealth of career and experiential learning opportunities, resources, and supports that hadn’t previously been easily accessible in one place. All of this content is carefully curated into digital ‘Communities’ based on career interest, such as ‘Arts, Design, & Entertainment’ and ‘Healthcare & Public Health’; or by audience, such as ‘Faculty & Staff’ or ‘Graduate Students’.

Each Community is dynamically populated with constantly refreshing content, pulled in through integrations with Handshake for jobs, events, and employers; The Roger Connection for alumni mentors; and trusted content providers such as The Muse and Vault for news and advice. The Communities also feature relevant student organizations, career resources and tools such as BuzzFile and O*Net, and easy access to connect with career advisors.

The new virtual career center is also designed to serve all Roger Williams alumni, who will find a Community specifically for them on the career platform. Like the other Communities, the Alumni Community is full of advice, opportunities, and resources tailored specifically to adults already on their career journeys, who may be looking to pivot, upskill, or make a big career change. By offering all alums ready access to career services for life, Roger Williams is strengthening their commitment to supporting students from the moment they arrive until long after they’ve graduated.

From within the virtual career center, students and alums can sign up to receive automatically customized newsletters that contain just the new resources and opportunities specifically  relevant to their unique interests and aspirations. The newsletters help to keep students actively engaged in career development throughout the year, starting from the moment they arrive on campus.

It’s not just students, alums, and the CCPD team who will benefit from the new virtual career center - the advantages also extend to prospective students, parents, employer partners, and faculty and staff. Prospective students will now be able to easily explore the wealth of career development activity they would gain access to should they choose to enroll at Roger Williams. Parents of current students will find a Community just for them on the new career platform, full of resources and advice for helping their student navigate the career journey. Employer partners will now be able to easily find everything they need in one place - information on recruiting, events, hosting interns, and more. And last but certainly not least, the new virtual career center allows faculty and staff to direct students to just one place in advising appointments or class sessions, to find all the career information they need.

“The Roger Williams career team is dedicated to engaging all members of the community in the career development of their students and alums,” says David Kozhuk, Founder and CEO of uConnect. “This approach is integral to ensuring the best possible outcomes for students and the institution, and we are so excited to be their partners in this work.”
