How a Career Services Office of One Made Career an Institutional Priority

When Monica Clem joined Edinboro University at the start of 2016, she was an office of one tasked with serving over 5,000 students. Despite, or perhaps in part because of, this seemingly impracticable ratio of students and responsibility to staff, Monica would go on to revolutionize career services at Edinboro over the next three years. 

Monica began developing a community model of career services on her campus. Quickly, the need for a digital space to bring together all of the partners and resources involved in the effort became clear. In 2018 Monica found the solution she was looking for and partnered with career services marketing system uConnect to build an intelligent and public-facing career platform. Her uConnect platform, TartanEdge, aggregates and curates all of the career resources, mentors and advisors, opportunities, and information students need along their career pathways. Now, the entire Edinboro community can readily access and contribute to career development efforts, strengthening Edinboro's career services offering while simultaneously scaling Monica's work. 

In the #careereverywhere webinar, ‘Making Career Mission Critical,’ Monica shared her methodology and lessons learned along her journey cultivating support and working to integrate career services into the campus ecosystem.
