Champlain College Online serves ambitious adult learners with a goal in mind, and for most that goal is career advancement. Online students are supported in their career advancement efforts by a small team of dedicated career advisors who offer guidance on cover letters and resumes, job and internship searches, and navigating career changes, among many other invaluable services.

Yet missing for the Champlain Online community was a dedicated online environment for adult learners and those who teach and support them to gather, to share and discover career development resources, tools, and career pathways. Champlain Online needed a way to simplify engagement and ensure that their online adult learners were aware of and utilizing the resources available to them, while simultaneously scaling the efforts of their small online career services team.

To help overcome these challenges, Champlain Online partnered with uConnect, and rolled out their higher education marketing platform in November 2018. On the new Champlain Online Career Resources platform, users can explore career pathways, find tools and resources, career opportunities and events, and filter all according to their interests. Students can sign up for consistent alerts, which deliver customized, relevant career information right to their inboxes on a regular basis, and career services staff can ensure that all adult learners are aware of the services they provide using the platform’s contemporary marketing tools. Alumni, employer partners, faculty and staff are also encouraged to engage with the platform, to find and share information, and support Champlain’s diverse adult learners in their career exploration and advancement ventures.

“We were looking for a solution for curated career resources for our adult, online undergraduate, graduate students, and alumni. uConnect offered all that and much more. While we are in the early stages of adopting the uConnect platform, we are pleased with the feedback we have heard from our students,” says Melissa Marcello, Associate Vice President of Champlain College Online. “The folks at uConnect are a dream to work with, and are eager to adapt the platform to the unique needs of our students while sharing best practices and lessons learned from other institutions.”

Given the goal of career advancement that drives so many of Champlain Online’s adults learners to pursue continuing education, increasing the visibility and accessibility of career services will undoubtedly have a positive impact on enrollment and persistence. Highlighting the institution-wide value of the platform, Champlain Online’s Career Services team unveiled the new platform to the rest of Champlain Online’s administrative team on November 20th.

“Heidi Wrighton, Assistant Director of Career Planning and Development, and the Champlain Online team were inspiring to work with. They understood how important it is to provide their remote learners with an easy way to find and access the wide range of relevant career resources, information and support that Champlain Online has for their students. Through uConnect, they have created a dynamic career exploration environment where students can access Graduway, Handshake, career content, sign up for events and even schedule meetings with advisors,” said Alli Pierpont, Director of Onboarding at uConnect. “It is very clear they are dedicated to their students’ success and are a great example of the difference that an innovative Career Centers can make on the student experience.”
